King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) global head of litigation Craig Pollack is in talks to join Covington & Burling.

Pollack, who joined legacy SJ Berwin in the early 1990s, was appointed as global litigation and disputes resolution chief at the firm following its merger with King & Wood Mallesons in 2014. At SJ Berwin he held roles on the firm's strategy and management committees.

If he joins Covington, he would follow former KWM disputes partner Greg Lascelles, who joined in September, and former KWM London litigation head Alex Leitch, who moved over in early 2015.

The news comes after it emerged on Friday that Goodwin Procter is set to hire a four-partner private equity team from KWM, following the US firm's hire of UK investment funds head Michael Halford.

KWM's efforts to recapitalise the firm failed last week, with Legal Week revealing that just 21 partners signed up to the proposals – equating to just over 16% of the 130-strong European, UK and Middle East (EUME) partnership, which is understood to have debts of around £35m.

The firm had been hoping that its EUME partners would commit to raising £14m to recapitalise the business, in order to secure financial backing from Asia, with around 60% of the EUME partnership required to agree to the deal for it to go ahead.

Separately, TLT has appointed KWM's former property ligation head and joint head of the UK real estate practice, Jason Juden, to head up the firm's property litigation practice in London, it emerged today. Juden left KWM in April.

KWM and Covington declined to comment.
