Clyde & Co has begun a redundancy consultation in its London aviation team, which is set to affect a "small number" of senior associates.

Three senior associate roles are currently in consultation, while the firm has informed a wider pool of lawyers within the practice of the proposed cuts.

A Clydes spokesman said: "Like any business, we are constantly monitoring work levels against our staffing and resourcing needs at all levels, and we are currently in consultation with a small number of senior lawyers in the team.‎"

The news comes after the firm also cut jobs in early 2013, making eight redundancies during a challenging financial year in which nearly half of the UK top 50 made layoffs.

Shortly after the Brexit vote earlier this year, a Legal Week survey of almost 200 partners found that 82% thought there would be UK law firm redundancies in the next two years, with 69% expecting "a few" and 19% anticipating "many".

Clydes recently appointed insurance head Simon Konsta as its new senior partner, succeeding James Burns, who has taken a new role as head of Americas. Speaking to Legal Week, Konsta said the firm plans to expand its footprint in North America, Europe and Asia on his watch.
