Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has made up one partner in London as part of its annual global promotion round.

The US litigation firm has promoted Khaled Khatoun to the partnership in its City base. Khatoun specialises in complex, high value commercial litigation and arbitration.

His promotion comes as part of a 13-strong new partner round, with the rest of the appointments made across Quinn's US offices in Washington DC, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Five women have been made up to partner in the round, which includes no promotions in Asia or elsewhere in Europe.

Last year, Quinn also made up a sole partner in London, with the firm now making up four new partners in its City base since it opened in 2008.

It has also boosted its London ranks with several lateral hires in recent months.

In September, Quinn hired Macfarlanes financial services head David Berman. His hire represents the fifth lateral partner hire by Quinn in London so far this year. It came after the litigation leader hired Covington & Burling partner and former Serious Fraud Office prosecutor Robert Amaee in August, to launch a new London white-collar and corporate investigations practice.

Other recruits include Herbert Smith Freehills construction partner James Bremen in June; Clyde & Co litigation partner Paul Friedman in February; and DLA Piper's UK competition head Kate Vernon in March.
