Transfer Window: recent moves for Hogan Lovells, Pinsent Masons and Eversheds
Others firms making hires include Dentons, Osborne Clarke and Sidley Austin

Hogan Lovells has hired Claire Lipworth from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), where she was chief criminal counsel. She is joining Hogan Lovells in April as a partner in its financial services litigation practice. Lipworth was a partner at business crime specialist Peters & Peters between 1999 and 2009. While at the FCA she oversaw Operation Tabernula, which was one of the largest and most complex investigations and prosecutions in the FCA's history.
Pinsent Masons and Burges Salmon have both made lateral hires from Ashurst, adding corporate partner Hammad Akhtar and investment funds partner Jeremy Bell respectively.
Akhtar joins Pinsents as head of its corporate offering in the financial services sector. He spent four years at Ashurst, having joined in 2013 from Herbert Smith Freehills where he was a partner.
Bell joins Burges Salmon as a partner in its funds and asset management team. His practice focuses on advising on the structuring and formation of private investment funds.
Eversheds has hired insurance partner Frank Thompson from K&L Gates in London, where he was also a partner. His practice focuses on advising policyholders on insurance coverage issues. He joined K&L Gates in 2011 from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was an associate.
Former Norton Rose Fulbright corporate partner Ian Moore has also joined Eversheds as a partner in its Nottingham office. He left Norton Rose in 2012 to found sportswear company Dhu. While at Norton Rose, his practice focused on corporate finance, private equity and commercial contracts.
The firm has also appointed Adam Fisher as a partner in its Birmingham office. Commercial litigator Fisher joins from Gowling WLG, where he was a director.
EY head of employment law, Daniel Aherne, has left after two years with the organisation. Prior to joining EY, he was head of employment at Olswang.
An EY spokesperson said: "After a 25-year career as an employment lawyer and two years at EY, Daniel has decided to leave EY and explore new challenges outside of law. We would like to thank Daniel for his contribution as a founding partner of the UK law team and in particular for his help in building an outstanding employment law team."
Fellow accountancy firm RSM has appointed employment lawyer Carolyn Brown as the first head of its client legal services practice, RSM Legal LLP. She joins from Howard Kennedy, where she was head of employment. RSM Legal LLP was founded in April 2016 after the firm received a licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority to practise law.
Osborne Clarke has hired King & Wood Mallesons litigation partner Rachel Couter as a partner in its London office. Her practice focuses on regulatory disputes in the financial services sector, including market abuse allegations and FCA investigations.
The firm has also hired a four-strong team from specialist IP law firm Rouse Legal, led by Arty Rajendra, who joins as a partner. Rajendra was head of UK litigation at Rouse. Also joining are director of trademarks Mark Foreman, trademark attorney Leanne Gulliver and senior associate Richard May.
US firm Sidley Austin has hired restructuring lawyer Jennifer Brennan from Linklaters, where she was a managing associate. Brennan joined Linklaters as an associate in 2008. She has joined Sidley Austin as a partner in its London corporate restructuring and bankruptcy practice. Her move follows that of Linklaters restructuring partner Yen Sum, who resigned to join Sidley in London late last year.
DLA Piper has appointed IP lawyer Leigh Martin as a partner in its Leeds office. He joins from Clarion Solicitors in Leeds, where he was head of the IP practice. Prior to joining Clarion, Martin was an associate in DLA's IP group.
Linklaters has bolstered its international trade law practice with the appointment of Lorand Bartels as external senior counsel. Bartels has experience in international trade as both an academic and practitioner. He has recently been appointed a specialist adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee on international trade.
Withers has re-hired private wealth lawyer Jeremy Arnold from asset manager Waypoint Capital. He joins the firm as a partner in its private client and tax team. He was previously an associate and then partner at Withers between 1985 and 2006, at which point he joined Barclays Wealth, where he spent two years before joining Waypoint Capital.
Addleshaw Goddard has appointed healthcare lawyer Barry Francis as a consultant in its infrastructure, projects and energy group. He was head of healthcare at Pinsents until April 2016.
DAC Beachcroft has hired non-lawyer Michael McCormack as a tax director in its London corporate team from US firm Cooley, where he previously led the London tax team. He had previous stints at Edwards WiIdman and Dentons legacy firm Salans.
US labour and employment specialist firm Ogletree Deakins has added to its London office with the hire of Daniella McGuigan as a partner. She joins from DAC Beachcroft, where she was a partner and head of the firm's national equal pay unit. She particularly focuses on equal pay litigation and gender pay inequality.
ENSafrica has boosted its Uganda office, hiring Phillip Karugaba from MMAKS Advocates. Karugaba has joined ENS to lead its Uganda practice. He focuses on M&A, capital markets and project development work.
Dentons has boosted its European private equity practice with the hire of three partners. Christopher Rose joins as head of Dentons' Europe venture technology group from Squire Patton Boggs, where he was head of the emerging markets private equity group. He will split his time between Moscow, London and Warsaw.
Partner Alessandro Dubini has joined Dentons' Milan office in its corporate department. He joins from Italian firm Biscozzi Nobili, along with a team of three associates. Counsel Simon Vogel has joined Dentons' Munich corporate/private equity department as a partner. He joins from King & Wood Mallesons.
Allen & Overy (A&O) has hired Fernando Torrente as a partner in Madrid, to lead its Spanish capital markets and M&A practice. He joins from leading Spanish firm Cuatrecasas Goncalves Pereira. He previously worked for A&O in Madrid between 2002 and 2005.
Kramer Levin has added to its European team with the hire of corporate partner Jean-Marc Desache in Paris. He joins from French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel, where he was a partner.
Gowling WLG has appointed Celine Bey as a partner in its Paris office. She joins from Herbert Smith Freehills, where she was a counsel.
Scottish firm Maclay Murray & Spens has made a double partner hire, adding Gordon Hobkirk in Aberdeen and Andrew Orr in Edinburgh. Corporate lawyer Hobkirk was previously a partner at Maclays between 2007 and 2012, before joining Bond Dickinson. Projects lawyer Orr joins from MacRoberts, where he was a partner.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Rebecca Maller-Stein and Kent A. Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer have entered their appearances for Hanaco Venture Capital and its executives, Lior Prosor and David Frankel, in a pending securities lawsuit. The action, filed on Dec. 24 in New York Southern District Court by Zell, Aron & Co. on behalf of Goldeneye Advisors, accuses the defendants of negligently and fraudulently managing the plaintiff's $1 million investment. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Vernon S. Broderick, is 1:24-cv-09918, Goldeneye Advisors, LLC v. Hanaco Venture Capital, Ltd. et al.

Attorneys from A&O Shearman has stepped in as defense counsel for Toronto-Dominion Bank and other defendants in a pending securities class action. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, is 1:24-cv-09445, Gonzalez v. The Toronto-Dominion Bank et al.

Crown Castle International, a Pennsylvania company providing shared communications infrastructure, has turned to Luke D. Wolf of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani to fend off a pending breach-of-contract lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Susan K. Declercq, is 2:24-cv-13131, The Town Residences LLC v. T-Mobile US, Inc. et al.

Wilfred P. Coronato and Daniel M. Schwartz of McCarter & English have stepped in as defense counsel to Electrolux Home Products Inc. in a pending product liability lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 26 in New York Eastern District Court by Poulos Lopiccolo PC and Nagel Rice LLP on behalf of David Stern, alleges that the defendant's refrigerators’ drawers and shelving repeatedly break and fall apart within months after purchase.
