James MillerRPC has elected insurance head James Miller as its new managing partner, replacing Jonathan Watmough who left the firm last month.

Rupert Boswell has been re-elected as the firm's senior partner for a second term.

Miller is head of the insurance group and has been at RPC for 21 years. He has been a member of its management board for the past eight years, which as managing partner he will now chair.

He said: "RPC has been on an exceptional run and I'm looking forward to helping lead the firm onto even greater things.

"We have real momentum. My priority is to build on that across RPC and continue to develop a unique, independent and profitable leading professional services firm – a firm that is focused on high quality work, anchored in our core discipline as a law firm."

He takes up the role with immediate effect.

Watmough's resignation in December last year triggered the election process.

Miller and RPC's current head of commercial Tim Anderson operated as joint managing partners until the election process was concluded.

Watmough was a partner at RPC for 25 years and had been managing partner since 2008.

In a statement at the time, Watmough said: "This is a natural time for me to move on. It is time to both try something new and to give someone else their chance. I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve and I am delighted to leave the firm in excellent health."

RPC won Law Firm of the Year at the 2015 British Legal Awards, after a year in which it saw revenue grow 12% against a 19% rise in profit, with this performance helping the firm deliver compound growth of 11.5% on both measures during the five years to that point.

This year, the firm revealed it had achieved revenue growth of 6% in 2015-16, breaching the £100m revenue barrier for the first time to record turnover of £100.5m.
