A group of firms including Clifford Chance, Pinsent Masons and Macfarlanes have won places on two new specialist panels created by insurer AIG.

AIG, which plans to kick off its main UK panel review this month, has created two new panels for advice on M&A insurance work and asset management work.

Other firms to have won places on the new panels include Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Paul Hastings, Berwin Leighton Paisner, Nabarro, Travers Smith, Simmons & Simmons and offshore firm Carey Olsen.

The new panels will remain separate from AIG's full UK legal panel.

The insurer's current UK panel arrangement is due to end in March, with firms expected to be contacted imminently about reapplying for places. The panel lasts for two years and is overseen by general counsel Chris Newby.

Newby has been with the insurer since 2006 and heads up its legal, regulatory and compliance functions in the EMEA region. He was previously an associate at legacy Norton Rose.

Fellow insurer LV= reviewed its panel at the end of last year, reappointing all four of its key legal advisers. The company, formerly known as Liverpool Victoria, conducted the review during the summer, reappointing Clifford Chance, Norton Rose Fulbright, Eversheds and Bond Dickinson.
