Goodwin has returned to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to pick up its second New York partner hire since January.
Litigation partner Gabrielle Gould has joined Goodwin as a partner in its financial industry practice group. Her hire follows that of Marshall Fishman, who joined the US firm as its head of New York commercial and financial litigation from Freshfields last month.
Gould acts for financial institutions, corporations and individuals on securities and commercial litigation in the US courts, as well as arbitrations, investigations and regulatory matters.
She is joining Goodwin alongside Freshfields litigation senior associate Samuel Rubin, who will be a counsel at Goodwin.
Thomas Hefferon, co-chair of Goodwin's financial industry group, said: "With Gabi and Sam on board alongside Marshall and our established, national team of financial industry litigators, we are continuing to make significant strides in expanding Goodwin's commercial and financial services litigation practice in New York."
Speaking to Legal Week sister title New York Law Journal after his move last month, Fishman said: "It's a new position to the firm and that certainly was a big attraction."
He also said he was drawn to the firm's 300 litigators in the US, stating that this scale in the US was "helpful to have".
Goodwin's New York commercial and financial litigation practice has around 10 partners and 25 to 30 associates.
Freshfields has seen a number of partner exits in New York in recent months. In October, corporate partner Doug Bacon left the firm for Kirkland & Ellis in Houston, while litigation partner and senior leadership team member Michael Lacovara left for Latham & Watkins in June. However, it added Aly El Hamamsy, a corporate partner from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, in November.
Last week, Allen & Overy (A&O) continued its US hiring spree with the recruitment of a three-partner finance and securities team from Paul Hastings in New York, including former leveraged finance head Bill Schwitter.
