Freshfields has made up 18 lawyers to its partnership in the firm's largest promotions round since 2012.

The group of 18 new partners – an increase of two on last year – features six London lawyers, including structured finance senior associate Richard Hart, whose promotion comes after the recent review of the magic circle firm's finance offering.

The firm has also promoted a greater number of women this year, with six made up, compared to five last year.

Freshfields' corporate practice has received the bulk of new partners with seven, with four in disputes, two in finance, two in antitrust, competition and trade, and two in tax.

Seven partners have been promoted in continental Europe, with three in Asia and one each in the US and the Middle East. The promotions are effective from 1 May.

Last year, the firm did not promote any new partners in Asia, following six partner promotions across its Asian offices in 2015.

Senior partner Edward Braham described the new partners as "exceptional individuals" and said: "Their legal expertise and commercial know-how will help us continue to grow our market-leading offering for our clients around the world."
