The Transfer Window: recent hires for Ashurst, Eversheds Sutherland and Addleshaw Goddard
Baker McKenzie, Pinsent Masons and Norton Rose Fulbright are also among firms making appointments recently

Eversheds Sutherland has hired employment partner Christopher Mordue from Pinsent Masons, where he led the firm's higher education and industrial relations teams. He joined Eversheds in its Leeds office earlier this month. Eversheds' education head, Diane Gilhooley, said that Mordue "has a national reputation as a trusted adviser in the higher education sector and is a welcome addition to our team".
Litigation boutique Enyo Law has launched a tax and insolvency practice with the hire of two partners in London. City commercial and tax litigation partner Fiona Walkinshaw joins from Deloitte, where she was head of corporate tax disputes for six years. Previously, she worked at legacy firm Theodore Goddard, Arthur Andersen's law firm Garretts and RPC. Enyo has also recruited Olswang London commercial litigation partner Louise Bell. She first joined Olswang as a partner in 2014 and specialises in insolvency disputes. It is understood she departed the firm ahead of its three-way merger with CMS Cameron McKenna and Nabarro due to client conflicts.
Brown Rudnick has hired international arbitration partner Virginie Colaiuta from Pinsent Masons. Prior to moving to Pinsents' London office, she practised in France for 11 years. She was previously a partner at US firm Hughes Hubbard & Reed.
DWF has hired two arbitration partners – one in London and one in Paris. Richard Twomey joins the firm in the City from Pinsent Masons, where he was a partner. He specialises in international arbitration in the energy, technology and manufacturing sectors. The firm has also appointed partner Romain Dupeyre in Paris. He joins the firm from litigation boutique BOPS. He has a practice that focuses on international arbitration and insurance litigation. DWF opened in Paris in January, via a merger with four-partner firm Heenan Paris.
DWF has also continued its expansion in Dublin with the recruitment of banking partner Louis Burke (pictured above) and litigation partner Eimear Collins from Mason Hayes & Curran. The firm also recently recruited project finance partner Garrett Monaghan from Arthur Cox. DWF's executive partner in Dublin, Ross Little, said: "Ireland is a key focus for DWF and these appointments are a vital part of our strategic growth plans to develop strong, commercially-focused service lines."
Ashurst has boosted its Milan office with the hire of a team of three lawyers from Norton Rose Fulbright. Banking partner Mario Lisanti leads the team of two associates joining the firm. Lisanti specialises in acquisition financing, real estate and development financing, infrastructure financing and corporate loans. He leaves Norton Rose after a decade at the firm as a partner.
Latham & Watkins has hired M&A partner Aldo Piccarreta from Italian firm Gattai Minoli Agostinelli & Partners. Piccarreta will join the firm's Milan office as a partner in the corporate practice. He first joined Gattai Minoli in 2012 and relocated to London in 2016 to spearhead the launch of its first City office. Previously, he was a local M&A partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf for nine years. He specialises in private equity, M&A, joint ventures, corporate finance and real estate transactions.
Shearman & Sterling has launched an Italian competition practice with the hire of Paolisa (Paola) Nebbia from the European Commission. Prior to joining Shearman, Nebbia worked at the Directorate General for Competition at the European Commission in Brussels for four years. Prior to that, she worked at the Italian Competition Authority in Rome between 2009-2013. She is a dual-qualified lawyer in Italy and England & Wales.
TLT has boosted its real estate practice in Manchester with the hire of partner John Hyde. He joins the firm from Weightmans. He was previously a member at property firm Semple Fraser and prior to that was a partner at DLA Piper, where he led the firm's retail property team.
Addleshaw Goddard has added to its real estate practice with the hire of Glenn Sharpe from DWF, where he was head of planning. Sharpe joins the firm in Leeds but his remit will span the firm's northern offices. Head of real estate at Addleshaw Goddard, Leona Ahmed, said: "Glenn is very well networked and his experience on high value mandates will strengthen our regional profile and enable us to pursue additional opportunities in the local market, as well as supporting the listed property companies and international investors that we work with."
Gateley Plc has hired Hogan Lovells restructuring and insolvency partner Stuart Tait as a partner in its Manchester office. Tait was previously based in Hogan Lovells' Hong Kong office, where he was made up to partner in 2015. He is expected to join Gateley in June. He has experience acting for lending syndicates, banks, funds and other financial institutions in restructurings, and for insolvency practitioners during insolvency processes.
The firm has also made a double partner hire in Reading, appointing Patrick Long and Paul de Vince from Pitmans and Shoosmiths respectively. Long, who was head of finance at his former firm, is Gateley's first banking partner in Reading. De Vince was formerly Shoosmiths' head of technology, media and commercial for London. His practice focuses on procurement projects and supply chain management. Gateley opened in Reading in December 2015. It has since grown to a team of seven partners.
Irwin Mitchell has expanded its private wealth team in Chichester with the hire of Kelly Greig, who joins the firm from Clarke Willmott where she was a partner. Her practice includes advising on succession and tax planning, wills and estate administration, and legal issues affecting the elderly such as mental capacity.
Bird & Bird has appointed partner Gaetano Salvioli as its head of tax in Italy. He will lead the tax practice in Milan and also manage the existing, specialist transfer pricing team. Salvioli was previously a tax partner at local firm Giovannelli e Associati and is joined in the move by one associate.
Pinsent Masons has appointed Carolyn Saunders as head of its London office, succeeding David Ryan who is retiring at the end of this month. Saunders is the firm's pensions head. She joined the firm in 2010 from Taylor Wessing, where she was also head of pensions. A spokesperson for the firm said Ryan is "taking some time off whilst he considers a number of options open to him".
Baker McKenzie has appointed James Richards as executive director of its Belfast legal services centre. Corporate partner Richards joined the firm in 1994 and made partner in 1998. He is currently director of legal services in Belfast and he succeeds Jason Marty in the role of executive director. Marty will remain with the firm and move to its Chicago office.
Richards said: "The last three years have been hugely significant for global services Belfast and it has been a privilege to be part of the story so far. And we have much still to do! I am thrilled to be taking up the executive director post and leading the Belfast-based teams as we take on even more exciting challenges and continue to deliver for our global clients."
Norton Rose Fulbright has refreshed its Asia management. The firm has appointed Hong Kong corporate partner Psyche Tai as the new head of that office. She has worked at the firm for 13 years. In Singapore, the firm has promoted banking and finance partner Yu-En Ong to office head. He has spent nearly 13 years at the firm. Norton Rose has also promoted Singapore project finance and banking partner Nick Merritt to head of Asia business strategy. In this role, Merritt will oversee business opportunities across Asia and between Asia and other regions. He will continue to act as global leader for infrastructure, mining and commodities.
Jeff Smith, current head of Southeast Asia, will relocate to the UK and become a consultant to the firm. Phillip John, current head of North Asia, will retire on 31 August 2017.
ENSafrica has appointed two new directors in its Johannesburg office. Ntsiki Adonisi-Kgame joins as a director in the firm's mining practice, having previously practised with the firm before moving in-house in 2014. Employment law litigator Joe Mothibi joins the firm from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he was also a director.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.

The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap, is 2:24-cv-00719, Alto Dynamics, LLC v. boohoo.com UK Limited.
