CMS has made up 48 lawyers to partner around the world, with 10 UK promotions including four from Nabarro and Olswang ahead of their three-way merger next week.

Two lawyers from both Nabarro and Olswang – which will merge with CMS on Monday (1 May) – have been promoted, all of who are based in London.

Olswang patent attorney Helen Wallis and senior associate Luke Pardey have made the grade, alongside two Nabarro senior associates – real estate lawyer David Crossley and Jack Shepherd in corporate.

Six UK-based CMS partners have been promoted, half of who are from the firm's offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, alongside three London lawyers – Paul Silver (TMT), Caroline Kurup (employment and pensions) and solicitor advocate David Bridge (disputes).

Of the 48 new partners, 27% are female, down from 39% last year, when the firm made up 31 new partners. In 2016, Nabarro made up five lawyers, with four in London and one in Sheffield, while Olswang also promoted just two last year.

CMS UK senior partner Penelope Warne said: "Providing opportunities for progression for all our employees is a key priority for our business. The broad range of countries and practice and sector groups in which the promotions have taken place is testament to the strength and confidence we have in our global business. "

CMS executive chairman Cornelius Brandi added: "In today's business environment, thinking and working across borders is essential. With the naming of our new CMS partners, we continue to expand and deepen our expertise across all our offices to ensure that our clients worldwide have access to the services they need wherever they are."

Partners at CMS UK, Olswang and Nabarro voted in favour of the transformative merger in October last year. Nabarro and Olswang will join the CMS UK LLP, which will be named CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.
