CMS and legacy Olswang partners score first joint pitch success with cricket broadcasting rights role
Firm appointed to advise on marketing and sale of ECB broadcasting and media rights

CMS has been appointed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to advise on the marketing and sale of its broadcasting and media rights for 2020 to 2024.
The ECB, the governing body of cricket for England and Wales, has handed the role to CMS after a tender process in November last year.
Legacy Olswang partner David Zeffman, now head of gambling and sport at CMS, is leading the team alongside global technology, media and communications head Chris Watson and City competition partner Satyen Dhana.
The appointment marks the first successful joint pitch by Olswang and CMS following confirmation of their three-way merger with Nabarro.
The mandate will include advising ECB on its tender process for the rights, as well as other various media rights agreements.
Watson said: "Critical to our appointment was our ability, as a newly united team, to provide sports, broadcasting, competition and intellectual property specialists all under one roof and each aligned to the ECB's objectives. This is a very significant appointment for the new firm and clearly demonstrates the strength of our combined offering and expanded ability to offer clients the full spectrum of international converged TMT services."
In 2014, the ECB turned to Dentons for advice on its partnership with News UK for the exploitation of its clips rights and News UK's role as ECB's official media partner.
Partners at CMS, Nabarro and Olswang voted in favour of their three-way merger in October last year. The combination went live on 1 May, with Nabarro and Olswang joining the CMS UK partnership – now named CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.
