The future of Olswang's Munich office has been resolved, with intellectual property (IP) litigation partner Thomas Lynker among a group of lawyers breaking away to launch a new boutique, and two partners agreeing to stay with the newly merged firm.

Olswang confirmed in February that it would close its Madrid, Brussels and Paris offices ahead of the three-way merger with CMS and Nabarro on 1 May, while discussions continued over the future of the five-partner Munich base.

However, all of the office's five partners have now found new homes, including patent litigator Lynker, who has launched an IP, tech and media boutique with a group of former Olswang colleagues.

The new firm, Taliens, has offices in Munich and Paris. In Munich, Lynker is joined by former Olswang counsel Monika Stoehr, while the Paris base is staffed by former Olswang partners Clara Steinitz and Jean-Frederic Gaultier.

The boutique also operates in Spain via an association with Madrid firm Baylos.

Lynker (pictured) commented: "We are a group who knew each other from Olswang, and we have now, due to the merger, set up our own boutique firm. Jean-Frederic in Paris is an old friend I've worked with during my entire Olswang life. It was more or less our idea to come together with other former Olswang lawyers."

The boutique's key clients include Chinese conglomerates TCL and ZTE.

Meanwhile, CMS is retaining Olswang's five-strong Munich patent prosecution team, which comprises partner Tobias Reker, two associates and two patent engineers.

Rather than joining the CMS Hasche Sigle Germany partnership, they will join the firm's UK LLP. The team will remain based in Olswang's Munich office until the current lease expires, when they will relocate to a new office near the European Patent Office.

Olswang launched its IP-focused Munich base in 2011 at the request of key client Microsoft. It is understood that Reker and London TMT head Clive Gringras are the main client relationship partners.

Of the other Olswang Munich partners, corporate partner Robert Heym is also joining CMS, according to his LinkedIn profile, while the other two have already left for other firms in Munich.

Former Germany technology and data protection head Andreas Splittgerber joined Reed Smith earlier this year, while patent litigation partner Uli Foerstl joined IP firm D Young & Co's local office earlier this week.

Olswang's three-way merger with CMS and Nabarro went live at the start of the month, after partners voted in favour of the deal last October.
