US firms Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Mayer Brown have both appointed new leaders for their London offices.

Simpson Thacher has named funds partner Jason Glover as managing partner of its City base, succeeding M&A partner Greg Conway, who has been in the role since 2007.

Glover joined Simpson Thacher from Clifford Chance in 2010 to establish a UK funds practice for the elite US firm. His clients include Actis, Apax, BC Partners, Bridgepoint, Cinven, Coller Capital, CVC and EQT.

Last year, Simpson Thacher made its first lateral partner hire in London in almost three years, taking on Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer corporate partner Ben Spiers. However, M&A partner Alvaro Gomez de Membrillera Galiana recently departed for Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison.

Meanwhile, Mayer Brown has elected its first female London senior partner, with litigation partner Sally Davies (pictured above) succeeding Sean Connolly.

Litigation partner Connolly will step down from the role at the end of June, having held the position at the firm for a decade.

Davies joined Mayer Brown as a trainee in 1992 and made partner in 2001. In addition to her appointment as senior partner, she was recently elected to serve on the firm's global partnership board. Her five-year term will commence on 1 July.

Mayer Brown chairman Paul Theiss said: "Sean is our longest-serving senior partner firmwide, and his steady hand at the wheel has guided the London office as it has developed and strengthened over the last ten years.

Theiss added: "Sean hands the reins over to Sally, whom I am delighted to congratulate on her appointment. Sally will be an excellent ambassador for the firm in the London market and I am confident that the office will continue to thrive under her leadership."
