US insurance giant AIG has appointed 29 firms to its UK legal panel, with Clifford Chance, DLA Piper and RPC among those winning spots.
The review was managed by AIG's legal operations centre head Patrick Fennelly, and overseen by EMEA GC Chris Newby.
The appointments will run for two years and will cover both claims and corporate legal work.
Other firms on the line-up include Eversheds, Dentons, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Macfarlanes and Berwin Leighton Paisner, some of whom were also named on the insurer's 2013 adviser review when Linklaters, Hill Dickinson and Morrison & Foerster were also named.
The 2013 review saw 25 firms appointed, with a subsequent review in 2015 resulting in no major changes to the line-up of UK advisers.
One minor change in 2015 resulted from the merger of two firms on the panel – Scotland's Simpson & Marwick and Clydes, which combined in October 2015, a move which consolidated their places on the line-up into one.
News of the review comes after AIG created two new specialist UK sub-panels focusing on M&A insurance work and asset management work. CC, Pinsent Masons and Macfarlanes were among the firms to win places on the new panels, alongside Freshfields, Paul Hastings, BLP, Nabarro, Travers Smith, Simmons & Simmons and offshore firm Carey Olsen.
Freshfields took a lead role for AIG last year on Canada Pension Plan Investment Board's $1.1bn purchase of AIG's stake in Lloyd's of London syndicate Ascot Underwriting.
EMEA GC Newby has been with the insurer since 2006 and heads its legal, regulatory and compliance functions across the region. He was previously an associate at legacy Norton Rose.
Last October, AIG recruited former Siemens legal chief Peter Solmssen as its new global GC. Solmssen, a former partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, is also a former GC of both GE Plastics and GE Healthcare. He succeeded Thomas Russo, who retired after serving as executive vice-president and GC, legal, compliance and regulatory at AIG since 2010.
All firms declined to comment.
