Slaughter and May and Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison have won roles on Jimmy Choo's £896m sale to New York-based fashion brand Michael Kors.

Slaughters and Paul Weiss are representing Michael Kors. Slaughters' team is being led out of London by private equity head Jeff Twentyman, while the US firm has put forward New York corporate partner Justin Hamill.

The London-listed shoemaker put itself up for sale as part of a strategic review in April.

That month, Legal Week reported that Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer was advising longstanding client Jimmy Choo on a prospective sale, fielding a team led by City M&A partner Chris Mort. Other partners on the deal include corporate partner Alison Smith, people and reward partner Nick Squire and competition partner Alex Potter.

In 2014, Mort advised the footwear retailer when it floated on the London Stock Exchange.

Jimmy Choo produces a range of high-end goods including shoes, scarves, sunglasses and fragrance. In 2012, McGrigors London real estate head Suzanne Gill advised the high profile brand on its move to a new London HQ in Westminster.

It is owned by JAB, the investment arm of German billionaires the Reimann family.

Other high profile retail deals this year include the Carlyle Group's £1.8bn sale of UK health food retailer Holland & Barrett.

Carlyle is selling the well known high street brand to L1 Retail, which is part of Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman's LetterOne investment business.

Latham is advising Carlyle, while L1 Retail is being advised by fellow US firm Jones Day.
