Simmons & Simmons has hired former Clifford Chance (CC) M&A partner Mark Carroll.

Carroll rejoined Simmons today (31 July), where he previously worked for 12 years, after spending 18 years with the magic circle firm.

He resigned from CC in May last year, according to filings at Companies House.

His arrival takes Simmons' total City corporate partner count to 22. The firm has 56 corporate partners globally.

The news comes after Simmons recruited former CC colleague and US capital markets partner Chris Walton earlier this month.

While at CC, in 2015, Carroll advised Deutsche Telekom on the sale of mobile operator EE to BT Group for £12.5bn. He also acted on behalf of natural resources producer Eurasian Resources Group in 2013, on its £3bn offer for London-headquartered Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation.

The most recent M&A partner hire for Simmons was corporate partner David Parkes from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM). Parkes joined the firm's London office in March.

Earlier this year, the firm also recruited Allen & Overy (A&O) capital markets partner Jonathan Mellor, and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton capital markets partner Simon Ovenden.

In June, Simmons announced resurgent profit per equity partner (PEP) results after a 10% fall in 2016-16. PEP rose by 9% to £635,000, against a 7% rise in revenue to £316.1m, up from £295.1m in 2016-16.
