Dentons has recruited a quartet of lawyers from Baker McKenzie to head up the launch of a tax practice in the Netherlands.

The hires, which include two partners, are the firm's first since its Netherlands launch in May this year via a merger with local firm Boekel.

The four tax lawyers are all joining Dentons Boekel – the name the firm operates under in the country – as partners. Jurjen Bevers and Heico Reinoud were both partners at Bakers while Paul Halprin and Marnix Veldhuijzen were lawyers in the firm's tax team. They will be based in Dentons Boekel's Amsterdam headquarters.

Dentons global tax co-head Sandra Hazan said: "With these new additions, we now have more than 90 tax lawyers in Europe. Dentons is the fastest growing tax practice on the continent with more than 40 new joiners over the last two years."

Boekel, which has merged into Dentons' European limited liability partnership, focuses on real estate, corporate and litigation. It now has around 20 partners and more than 70 lawyers.

Dentons, the world's biggest law firm by headcount, has continued to expand this year, and last month sealed a Scotland launch with a deal to merge with Maclay Murray & Spens.

This May it announced that it was opening in Myanmar after acquiring a seven-strong local team, while the firm has also established a presence in Central America with the launch of Dentons Munoz in Costa Rica and Dentons Lopez Velarde in Monterrey, Mexico.

Other recent European expansion has included opening in Milan in 2015 and last year launching in Luxembourg and Rome. In May 2016, the firm opened an office in Munich, its third in Germany after launches in Berlin and Frankfurt.
