Mothercare has appointed an interim group general counsel, following the departure of former  GC and company secretary Daniel Talisman after less than two years at the company.

Andrew Eames has taken the top legal role at the retailer as it searches for a permanent GC to replace Talisman, who had been at the company since January 2016.

Eames joins after 14 years at Japanese financial services giant Nomura, where he was co-head of corporate legal and company secretary.

Talisman resigned in August, with Eames appointed on the same day. Prior to joining Mothercare, Talisman was GC of GVC, a service provider to the gaming and betting markets, before which he held the same role at Sportingbet.

He took over as Mothercare GC in January 2016 from Nick Folland, who also served as interim GC after former group GC Tim Ashby left in July 2015 to join Land Securities.

Eames has joined Mothercare's executive committee and will lead the legal, company secretarial and corporate responsibilities functions. The bulk of the role deals with the company's commercial and business transactions, M&A, international franchises, joint venture agreements, intellectual property, IT, data protection and corporate governance.

Law firms to have worked with Mothercare in the past include Slaughter and May, which advised on its £100m rights issue in 2014.
