Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, Latham & Watkins and Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz are advising on Broadcom's $130bn (£98bn) bid for US microchip rival Qualcomm.

Broadcom, which counts Apple as a key client, made the offer yesterday (6 November).

Paul Weiss is acting for Qualcomm with corporate partner and global M&A head Scott Barshay leading the firm's team. He was also part of the firm's team advising Qualcomm last year on its proposed $47bn (£38.6bn) acquisition of NXP Semiconductors.

Wachtell and Latham, meanwhile, are advising Broadcom.

The Wachtell team includes corporate partner and firm co-founder Martin Lipton, alongside corporate partners Adam Emmerich, David Karp and Ronald Chen.

They are working with competition partner Damian Didden, employment partner Adam Shapiro, finance partner Gregory Pessin, litigation partner William Savitt and tax partners Eiko Stange and Tijana Dvornic.

Latham's team is being led by Silicon Valley corporate partners Kit Kaufman and Tony Richmond. Brussels partner Joshua Holian and San Francisco partner Daniel Wall are advising on competition issues. The team also includes New York tax partner David Raab.

Qualcomm had previously been a Cravath Swaine & Moore client for years, with Paul Weiss winning the mandate to act for the company on its purchase of NXP after Barshay joined the firm from Cravath in April last year.

Qualcomm's $47bn bid for NXP also handed roles to Allen & Overy (A&O) and DLA Piper, with DLA representing Qualcomm's board of directors and A&O advising Qualcomm on Dutch legal matters.
