The 2017 Law Society RFC Rugby 7s and Netball Tournament, sponsored by Marston Holdings, saw forty teams (24 rugby and 16 netball) competing across the two tournaments.

Surprisingly for September, the sun shone all day with temperatures hitting 21 degrees, ideal conditions for both sports.

The inaugural Netball Tournament was hailed as a success with four teams walking away with the prizes, headed by Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), who won the main Cup, beating Simmons & Simmons.

Squire Patton Boggs beat Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the final of the Plate competition, and Addleshaw Goddard beat Watson Farley & Williams in the Bowl. The final of the 'beer' Jug saw Osborne Clarke beating the Law Society RFC team to take home the crate of Heineken that came with the Jug.

In the rugby, last year's winners Squire Patton Boggs were narrowly beaten by new entrant to the tournament, Goldman Sachs, in the Cup final, with the Plate final seeing a repeat of the 2016 final with BLP again narrowly losing to the Law Society RFC.

The great weather enabled friends and family to enjoy the hospitality available, whilst the bouncy castle, face painter and biscuit decorating went down well with children who attended.

Marston Holdings put on a BBQ for the players and supporters after the presentations had been made, and it was great to see so many people staying around afterwards to enjoy some inter and intra-company socialising, aptly led by the team from William Fry, over from Ireland. A big thanks to Richmond for hosting again, and Marston Holdings for bringing a professional feel to the tournament, and generously providing food and drinks after the event.

Tournament director Daniel How said: "The addition of netball to the tournament was a great success, and really helped to bring firms together with most of the firms entering teams into both tournaments. We're already looking ahead to next year, and aiming to continue the growth of the tournament."
