Former Allen & Overy (A&O) senior partner David Morley has joined the strategic advisory board of Indian law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.
Morley, who retired from A&O last year, had previously served as the magic circle firm's senior partner for two terms from 2008 to 2016.
This latest appointment, which is effective immediately, sees him join a strategic advisory board which was first set up in 2015.
It currently comprises five other members. These include Deepak Parekh, chairman of India's Housing Development Finance Corporation, and Ashok Chawla, Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairman.
The firm's managing partner Cyril Shroff said: "David Morley's appointment reaffirms our faith in our board. Along with serving as a member of this distinguished board, David will also be an adviser to the firm and will guide the senior leadership on strategic issues of the future. David's experience and vision for the future of the legal profession has few parallels. His approach towards innovation is unique."
Other roles Morley has taken up since retirement include chairing A&O's new leadership initiative. Earlier this year, he also took on a new role as chair of UK-focused private equity firm Elaghmore Partners.
About 60 A&O lawyers are currently enrolled on the Leadership Centre programme, which is designed to support and mentor lawyers with leadership ambitions and improve female representation among the firm's senior ranks. Morley is working on the initiative's delivery with a steering group that includes Santander head of legal John Collins.
Morley spent 36 years at A&O, having joined as a trainee in 1980. He went on to run the banking practice before being elected managing partner in 2003 and then senior partner in 2008.
