Burges Salmon has appointed employment head Roger Bull to succeed Peter Morris as managing partner from May this year.

Morris (pictured above right) has served two four-year terms, having originally been appointed to the role in 2010. He will remain with the firm to assist with the transition after standing down from his management role.

Employment partner Bull (pictured above left) joined the Bristol firm as a trainee in 1995, made partner in 2003 and has led the firm's employment team since 2011. Between 2009 and 2011, he sat on the firm's governing executive committee.

Bull said: "I am excited and honoured to be succeeding Peter as the firm's next managing partner. During Peter's eight-year tenure, his drive and leadership have been instrumental in positioning Burges Salmon as one of the UK's most successful independent law firms."

Bull's appointment follows on from fellow employment partner Chris Seaton's elevation to senior partner in May 2017, succeeding corporate partner Alan Barr who had served six years in the role.

Morris said: "Roger and I are working towards a smooth transition and will continue to do so between now and 1 May 2018, and beyond. Roger and senior partner Chris Seaton will make a strong management team. I am confident that Burges Salmon will continue to prosper in their safe hands."

When Morris took the managing partner role in 2010, the firm's revenue was £60.7m while profit per equity partner (PEP) was £395,000. The firm has since increased turnover by almost one third to £87m, while PEP now stands at £438,000.

Bull will be succeeded as head of the firm's employment team by Adrian Martin, who joined the firm in 2002 from Simmons & Simmons.
