US litigation powerhouse Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has reported 61% revenue growth in its London office.

The firm has announced revenue of £71.9m for the last calendar year, jumping from £44.8m in 2016.

Profit also increased by 61% from £32.6m to £52.6m, equating to a 73% profit margin.

Partner headcount in its City base has stayed flat at 18, while its associate and of counsel ranks have grown by 14 to 47.

However, the firm saw its first London partner departure at the start of last year when US rival Latham & Watkins recruited City litigator Martin Davies.

Davies was the first partner to exit Quinn's London office since its 2008 launch.

London co-managing partner Richard East told Legal Week: "These results show the extent to which we've grown over the last ten years into a significant litigation practice, and also reflect the success of some of our more recent lateral partner hires.

"We're always in the market for new lateral partners that we think can potentially move the needle – that's the business model. We still have a startup mentality and can't let our guard down – you're only as good as your last case."

The firm added to its City ranks last year with the hire of Clifford Chance tax investigations and disputes head Liesl Fichardt.

Other notable hires in recent years include Addleshaw Goddard civil fraud head Mark Hastings, Covington & Burling white-collar crime partner Robert Amaee, and Herbert Smith Freehills construction partner James Bremen.
