Former National Grid deputy general counsel Mark Noble has re-emerged at engineering company Renishaw as interim general counsel and company secretary.

Renishaw is a Gloucestershire-based company that makes products and services used in applications such as jet engines, wind turbine manufacture, dentistry and brain surgery.

Noble joins the FTSE 250 company as interim GC after 17 years at National Grid. He is taking over from longstanding GC and company secretary Norma Tang, who departed in August after 16 years at Renishaw to join engineering group GKN as interim company secretary.

Noble joined National Grid in 2000 and led the corporate, commercial and property law teams in the US for four years, alongside his core responsibilities. In 2007, he moved away from his legal role for a period to head the secretariat team in London. Before moving in-house, Noble was an associate at legacy Eversheds.

Prior to leaving National Grid in October last year, Noble played an important role in the sale of a 61% stake in the company's UK gas distribution business to a consortium of overseas investors. The deal, which completed in March 2017, also threw up roles for Linklaters, Clifford Chance (CC), CMS and Eversheds.

In October, National Grid announced that it had renewed its 12-strong law firm panel for another two years, with all firms including Herbert Smith Freehills, Linklaters, Norton Rose Fulbright keeping their spots until 2019.
