Clyde & Co has strengthened its Washington DC office with the hire of a nine-lawyer insurance team.

Partners Doug Mangel, John Hockenbury, Joe Bailey and Alex Karam join Clyde & Co from US firm Shipman & Goodwin alongside five other lawyers.

The team will bolster the firm's insurance coverage practice in Washington DC, which Clyde & Co opened in February 2017 with the hire of a six-partner insurance team.

The team specialises in financial institutions, directors and officers and professional liability insurance coverage. They also act as coverage, monitoring and litigation counsel representing large commercial insurers nationwide.

Clyde & Co senior partner Simon Konsta said: "Further strengthening our insurance practice in Washington, DC is another sign of our commitment to continued expansion in the United States. This team and other recent hires continue to enhance our offering to clients across the country and internationally."

Clyde & Co Washington DC managing partner Leslie Ahari said: "Doug, John, Joe and Alex and their team will be great additions to our insurer-focused practice in Washington DC, and will expand our core practice areas of FI D&O and professional liability coverage work for insurers.  They are well known and very highly regarded as insurance lawyers, and we are very excited they have chosen to move their practices to Clyde & Co."

The latest hire in the US come after the firm hired a 90-strong insurance and litigation team from failed insurance firm Sedgwick, including 15 partners, in December 2017.

This year, Clyde & Co also expanded its Miami office with the hire of a 10-lawyer team.

The firm opened offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington DC in 2017 and has 10 offices, with 60 partners and more than 350 people across offices in Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Orange County, Long Beach, New York City and New Jersey.
