Addleshaw Goddard has hired an eight-lawyer construction team from DWF in Manchester.

The firm has hired DWF's national head of construction and its Manchester head of construction alongside six associates.

National construction head Paul O'Kane and Manchester head Paul Barge are set to join Addleshaws later this year alongside six lawyers from DWF's construction team.

The team move comes after Addleshaws hired DWF's planning head Glenn Sharpe in Leeds last year.

O'Kane joined DWF in 2008 from DLA Piper, where he was head of the firm's Manchester construction team, while Barge joined DWF in 2007 as an associate from DLA Piper before making partner in 2008.

Barge is set to join Addleshaws in June, with O'Kane to join in the autumn. The associates are all set to arrive next month.

Commenting on the hires Addleshaws construction head Nancy McGuire said: "The arrival of Paul O'Kane, Paul Barge and the six associates is massively complimentary to our existing offering, as well as bringing new opportunities, as we focus on growing market share."

DWF real estate head Toby Askin said: "We are currently investing in further growth opportunities that will enhance our existing expertise and profile not only in construction, but also across the wider real estate platform."

As part of its plans to rebuild DWF is hiring partner David Vayro from Trowers & Hamlins as head of Manchester construction, with Pinsent Masons senior associate Kate Kirby joining as a partner in London.

Other recent hires for Addleshaws include Leeds corporate partners Richard Hunt who joined from Squire Patton Boggs in January and Pete Wood, who joined from Pinsents in July 2017.

Last year Legal Week reported that DWF's head of business restructuring and head of corporate banking had both resigned from the firm.

Head of business restructuring Gavin Jones left to join Hill Dickinson while corporate banking head Jonathan Edwards joined Browne Jacobson.
