DWF's entire family law team has left to join Manchester-based JMW.

DWF's national head of family law, David Pickering, will lead a roughly 15-strong team of lawyers and support staff heading to JMW. The team also includes the head of the firm's family department in Liverpool, Beverley Jones.

DWF will not look to replace the team, which is expected to join JMW's Spinningfields' office on 1 May.

Pickering has been with DWF for just under 11 years and has a focus on cases relating to division of assets following relationship breakdowns and issues relating to children.  Jones acts on divorce and financial settlements and children act applications.

JMW's family law practice is currently led by Michael Chapman and has one other partner and 11 lawyers.

Commenting on the departures, DWF litigation practice group partner Graham Dagnall said: "Over the past few years we have undergone a transformation in terms of geographical reach, and as a complement to that growth we have continued to refine and develop our sector-focused go-to-market strategy. A natural consequence of the development of our strategy is that there are some reasonable and anticipated changes to certain practice areas.

"In that regard, we have worked with our family team who have been a valued part of our litigation offering. At this stage, we respect the decision made by the departing partners and we wish the team well as they move on."

JMW senior partner Joy Kingsley added: "We are delighted to welcome David Pickering and his family law team to JMW. In our opinion, David is the best-respected family lawyer in Manchester and he will bring with him all of the team's clients who wish to transfer to us. David also has many strong contacts, who will create excellent work opportunities for other departments within JMW.

Earlier this month, Addleshaw Goddard hired an eight-strong construction team from DWF in Manchester, including DWF's national head of construction Paul O'Kane and its Manchester head of construction Paul Barge.

Last year, Legal Week revealed that the firm's head of business restructuring Gavin Jones and head of corporate banking Jonathan Edwards had also resigned from the firm, joining Hill Dickinson and Browne Jacobson respectively.

DWF has been in international expansion mode, with an office opening in Qatar and an exclusive alliance in Turkey reported by Legal Week last week.

JMW declined to comment.
