Dentons is set to combine with seven firms across Africa, Mauritius, the Caribbean, Indonesia and Malaysia, as it continues its breakneck global expansion.

The proposed tie-ups, announced today (14 March), will see the firm join forces with Hamilton Harrison & Mathews in Kenya; Mardemootoo Solicitors and Balgobin Chambers in Mauritius; Dinner Martin in the Cayman Islands; Delany Law in the Eastern Caribbean; Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners in Indonesia; and Zain & Co in Malaysia.

If approved by partners, the deals will go live later this year.

Dentons has completed a string of combinations around the world in recent years, including moves into Uganda, the Netherlands, Myanmar and Peru during 2017, while the firm also recently launched in Scotland via a tie-up with Maclay Murray & Spens.

Dentons CEO Elliott Portnoy said:  "We are growing faster in Latin America and the Caribbean – and with truly high-quality firms – in a way that no one has ever done before.

"Our new offices in Mauritius and Kenya complement our growing pan-African presence, coming on the heels of our expansion in neighbouring Uganda just last year. And our expansion in Indonesia and Malaysia builds on our presence in Singapore and Myanmar in the dynamic Southeast Asia region."

The seven firms cover a number of practice areas, including banking and finance, corporate, dispute resolution, real estate and tax, and infrastructure.

Dentons Africa CEO and  South Africa managing partner Noor Kapdi added: "Our expansion in Kenya will build on our east Africa presence in Uganda, while our combinations in Mauritius will help us pursue our overall Africa growth strategy."

In 2017, Dentons also expanded into Central America with a combination in Costa Rica, added to its presence in Mexico and announced a strategic alliance with Brazilian firm Vella Pugliese Buosi Guidoni.
