CMS dismisses Singapore managing partner and reports matter to SRA
Firm cites 'serious sensitivities' and picks corporate partner to take over as Singapore head

CMS has dismissed Singapore managing partner Andrew Stott and reported the circumstances of his departure to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
The decision to dismiss Stott was made following recommendations by CMS senior partner Penelope Warne and managing partner Stephen Millar, and was unanimously approved by the firm's 20-partner board.
The matter has been reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), which has confirmed it is reviewing the information it has received.
In a statement, the SRA said: "Now that we are aware, we will look at all relevant information before deciding on any next steps."
CMS confirmed Stott's departure, although the firm declined to specify the circumstances surrounding his dismissal. He has been succeeded as Singapore head by corporate partner Toby Grainger, who joined legacy Olswang in 2015 from Ashurst.
In a statement, the firm said: "CMS does not normally comment publicly on confidential partner matters. We are mindful of the SRA process and serious sensitivities and will not be commenting further at this time."
Stott, formerly Singapore managing partner at legacy Olswang, took over as managing partner of the combined office when his firm's merger with CMS went live on 1 May last year.
He had led Olswang's Singapore practice since May 2016 after succeeding former Asia head Rob Bratby, who subsequently left to join Arnold & Porter ahead of its merger with fellow US firm Kaye Scholer.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he is now founder and CEO of Stott Advisory, while he is also a director of Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia, an association for multichannel TV broadcast service providers in Asia.
Last year, CMS secured local law capability in Singapore with the launch of a formal law alliance. The firm entered into a formal relationship with seven-lawyer Singaporean boutique Holborn Law, which operates as CMS Holborn Asia.

The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota.
