Burges Salmon and Gowling WLG  have announced their 2018 new partner promotions, with fewer women making partner at both firms this year.

Bristol's Burges Salmon has made up two male lawyers to partnership, with the promotions set to take total partner count to 88. Last year the firm made up three new partners, including one woman.

Tax lawyer Ian Carnochan, who has a broad practice covering corporate, real estate and commercial tax, and construction and engineering lawyer Richard Adams, who focuses on the energy, utilities and transport and infrastructure sectors, both join the partnership in Bristol.

Meanwhile, Anglo-Canadian firm Gowling has made up five new partners. The total figure is on par with last year, however in 2017 four of the five new partners were female.

Four of the new partners in 2018 are in Birmingham – including sole woman Zoe Fatchen – with one in London, IP specialist John Coldham.

The other new partners for Gowling are real estate directors Matt Walker and Joe Morris and corporate director Ragi Singh.

Gowling WLG chief executive David Fennell, said: "They have each made a significant contribution to the business already, demonstrating an outstanding commitment to our clients, and to the growth of their practices and the wider firm.

"The feedback was consistently excellent on each and every one of them – great team players who have developed our business both within the UK and around the world."
