Dechert life sciences exits continue as Frankfurt team leaves for McDermott
McDermott recruits four-strong team from Dechert on back of triple partner exit to Goodwin

McDermott Will & Emery has sealed the hire of a four-lawyer Frankfurt team from Dechert's life sciences practice.
Corporate life sciences partner Ruediger Herrmann is making the move alongside a team of three lawyers, comprising biotechnology transactions partner Jochen Eimer and two counsel.
The departures come after Goodwin Procter yesterday (16 April) announced the hire of four life sciences lawyers from Dechert – including two City partners – to extend its US life sciences practice into Europe.
Herrmann, who has been at Dechert since 2014 when he joined from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, acts for clients in the biotechnology and pharma sectors on M&A, joint ventures, initial public offerings and intellectual property matters. Eimer, meanwhile, focuses on regulatory issues, compliance, anti-corruption, pricing and reimbursement.
The pair are joined by counsel Alicia Hong and Monika Richter, who focus on transactional work in China and eastern Europe respectively.
McDermott Frankfurt head Michael Cziesla said: "We are excited to strengthen our transactions practice and Frankfurt office with such a fantastic team of life sciences lawyers. With the addition of Herrmann's team, McDermott solidifies its position as a global leader in life sciences."
The departures of Herrmann and Eimer mean Dechert has now seen five life sciences partners leave this week, with London duo Andrew Harrow and Graham Defries and New York partner Kristopher Brown joining Goodwin alongside New York counsel Jonathan Schur.
Earlier this month, McDermott recruited more than 20 partners from DLA Piper's US offices in a series of hires that the firm expects to add $100m to its top line. The hires included a real estate finance team led by Jeffrey Steiner, the former global co-chair of DLA Piper's finance practice

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
