Paul Hastings takes first role for new private equity client on back of DLA Piper City hire
New London private equity head Balasubramanian brings over new client for €357m deal

Paul Hastings has advised Abry Partners on its latest acquisition, after winning the private equity house as a client with the arrival of relationship partner Anu Balasubramanian from DLA Piper last month.
Abry, which focuses on investments in the media, communications, business and information services sectors, has acquired mobile communication provider LINK Mobility in a €357m (£314m) deal.
Norway-based LINK Mobility, which specialises in mobile messaging services, mobile solutions and mobile intelligence, was advised by Oslo firm Aabo-Evensen & Co.
The Paul Hastings team advising Abry was led by Balasubramanian, and included finance partner Richard Kitchen, tax partner Arun Birla, privacy partner Sarah Pearce, and competition partner Pierre Kirch.
Norweigan firm BAHR and and a DLA Piper Oslo team also advised on Norwegian law aspects of the transaction.
Balasubramanian joined Paul Hastings to lead the firm's London private equity team last month, after five years at DLA Piper as a partner.
Her arrival – alongside the US firm's recent hire of corporate heavyweight partner Roger Barron from Linklaters – represents a focus on transactional recruitment for Paul Hastings, London managing partner Ronan O'Sullivan told Legal Week.
O'Sullivan said the aim is to create a City private equity offering that can enhance Paul Hastings' relationships with key US clients such as Starwood, HIG Capital, Oaktree and Vector Capital and offer them more service across the UK and Europe.
