Advanced Discovery's mobile-data-capturing eDiscovery tool saw it triumph in the supplier innovation category for data management.

The tool – which one judge described as like WhatsApp for legal – makes the review and analysis of mobile data both more efficient and more robust.

Whereas traditional mobile data interrogation has tended to involve looking through plain-text data without any embedded content, Advanced Discovery's Advanced Message Review tool (which will form part of a wider suite of complementary products following the firm's merger with Consilio) groups the two datasets together, ensuring nothing is viewed out of context (reducing the risk of acting on the meaning of text without seeing any associated content, such as photos).

Already being used by clients in high-profile cases, AMR collects data for use as evidence from mobile phones and other messaging services, and presents the findings in a user-friendly speech-bubble-style format, similar to how messages are displayed on mobile devices.

It can also analyse interactions between individuals across multiple messaging applications and bundle them together into one master conversation, avoiding the need to review numerous interactions across different platforms.

The tool is estimated to reduce reviewable content by more than 90%, cutting the time needed to review the data by about a quarter.
