Baker McKenzie has continued its City hiring spree with the addition of Sidley Austin London global finance co-head Matthew Dening, who returns to the international firm after 14 years.

Dening, who stepped down as Sidley Austin's London managing partner earlier this summer after a four-year term, spent 11 years at Bakers City office having joined as a trainee in 1993.

He made partner in 2003 and joined Sidley Austin the following year.

Dening will rejoin Bakers' City structured capital markets practice later this year, with his hire coming alongside Ropes & Gray capital markets counsel Haden Henderson, who joined Bakers as a partner this week.

Bakers' London managing partner Alex Chadwick said: "We're delighted to welcome Matthew back to Baker McKenzie and to have Haden on board. Together, these excellent hires will play key roles in elevating our structured capital markets and corporate finance practices; areas where we are very much in growth mode."

The hires come amid a wider transactional strategy which has, during the past year, seen Bakers aggressively expand its London-based corporate, banking and finance, private equity, capital markets and tax teams.

So far in 2018, key lateral hires for the firm have included Ropes & Gray finance partner Matthew Cox; Linklaters counsel Megan Schellinger, who joined as a partner in the capital markets practice; and White & Case partner Michael Doran in its structured capital markets team.

This year, Baker McKenzie saw revenue and PEP climb to new heights, with turnover reaching a record $2.9bn (£2.2bn) globally and PEP breaking £1m for the first time.
