Addleshaw Goddard has cut ties with its 10-strong Edinburgh private client team, with the two-partner-led team leaving to join Scots firm Morton Fraser.

Addleshaws private capital head Gregor Mitchell leads the exit, and is joined by legal director Euan Fleming, alongside a team of support staff, including solicitors, consultants, paralegals and executive assistants.

Addleshaws established a Scottish presence last year via a merger with Mitchell's former firm HBJ Gateley following a partner vote in 2016, providing the firm with about 134 new lawyers and new offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Addleshaws senior partner in Scotland Malcolm McPherson said: "The team leave with our thanks and best wishes, as they join a firm which is a better fit for their experience, expertise and client portfolio, while Addleshaws' core market-leading private capital team, based in Leeds and Manchester, continues to be a key part of our business focusing on ultra- and high-net-worth individuals, corporate entities, family offices, trust companies and charities."

Addleshaws and HBJ officially merged on 1 June 2017 after the Scots firm split from Gateley.

The merger contributed to a 22% revenue boost for Addleshaws in 2017-18. The tie-up had initially been expected to add upwards of £20m to Addleshaws' top line, but both legacy firms also enjoyed double-digit growth during the past year, taking combined turnover to a new record high of £242m.

Other recent departures from Addleshaws include former Qatar head Martin Brown, who left for Keystone after being succeeded as head of the firm's Doha base by former Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman partner Ahmad Anani earlier this year.
