The Serious Fraud Office's (SFO) general counsel Alun Milford is joining Kingsley Napley's white-collar defence team in the latest exit from the regulator to a law firm.

Milford's move – which will take place early next year – follows Slaughter and May's hiring of Green earlier this month, and is the latest example of a senior prosecutor moving into private practice.

Milford will work on multi-jurisdictional investigations, sanctions, compliance and enforcement matters.

Before becoming the SFO's GC in 2012, Milford spent nearly 26 years in senior prosecutor roles. Before his tenure at the regulator, he spent the majority of his career at the Crown Prosecution Service and later, in 2004, joined the Attorney General's Office, specialising in contempt of court and unduly lenient sentences.

The firm has been on a recent drive to grow its criminal litigation team, with partner and magistrate Nicola Finnerty arriving in May, following fellow partner Louise Hodges' promotion to head of the department.

The SFO has for several years acted as a feeder to white-collar practices around the City, with senior prosecutors taking up partnership at the UK's biggest firms. Recent examples include former prosecutor Sacha Harber-Kelly's move to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and ex-bribery co-head Ben Morgan's move to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
