Fieldfisher is set to merge with Spanish law firm Jausas, launching in the country with bases in Barcelona and Madrid.

The merger, which will operate under a Swiss verein structure, is set to go live tomorrow (26 September).

Jausas specialises in corporate, restructuring, competition, life sciences, disputes, tax, employment and IP work, with 90 members of staff including 14 partners across the two offices. The newly merged firm will adopt the name Fieldfisher Jausas in Spain.

Led by managing partner Agustin Bou, the 52-year-old firm last year posted turnover of €8.5m (£7.6m).

Fieldfisher has expanded its global reach this year through a series of office openings. It has already launched bases in Frankfurt, Luxembourg and Guangzhou during 2018, bringing the firm's network up to 24 offices. The firm also launched a legal services centre in Belfast this summer.

Fieldfisher managing partner Michael Chissick said: "Spain has one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe and is the fourth-largest economy in the eurozone. It's where an increasing number of our clients are doing business and where we have for some time been looking to establish offices, in line with our strategy to be in all the major commercial centres of Europe."

Last month the firm posted standout financial results, with its top of equity reaching heights comparable to that at the magic circle. It soared from £2m last year to a new high of £3.2m.

The increase puts Fieldfisher's top of equity among the highest at any UK firm. The upsurge came after another strong financial year for Fieldfisher, during which the firm saw revenue increase by 24% to hit £207m, a new record high, alongside a 17% hike in profit per equity partner (PEP) to £750,000.
