Travers Smith, Cooley and Hogan Lovells are advising on Apple's acquisition of music app Shazam for $400m (£340m.)

London-headquartered music-recognition app Shazam is being advised by Travers, with firm managing partner David Patient recently citing the company as one of the firm's key clients after a standout financial year.

The Travers team is being led by corporate partner Andrew Gillen, and includes tax partners Jessica Kemp and Madeleine Gowlett and commercial, IP and technology partner Louisa Chambers. The firm also previously advised on the European Commission's investigation into its acquisition by Apple.

Hogan Lovells is advising Shazam on US corporate matters.

Apple is being advised by Cooley, with the US firm's team being led by London managing partner Justin Stock, along with tax partner Natasha Kaye and technology partner Chris Coulter.

London-headquartered Shazam is a leader in music-recognition technology and Apple has announced that, following the deal, it will make Shazam's app ad-free for everyone.

Recent deals Travers Smith has advised on include the £1.5bn sale of Pret a Manger to German investment group JAB Holdings. It advised longstanding client Bridgepoint on the deal, fielding a team led by head of private equity Paul Dolman and private equity partner Ian Shawyer.
