Greenberg Traurig City tax partner Clive Jones is set to join DLA Piper, in a move that will reunite him with several of his former colleagues at King & Wood Mallesons (KWM).
Jones joined Greenberg's London base almost two years ago as part of a six-partner team that was recruited from KWM on the same day (16 December 2016) that another six-partner real estate team sealed a move to DLA, just weeks before KWM's European arm collapsed into administration.
Jones joined Greenberg alongside real estate funds partners Steven Cowins and Marc Snell, real estate partner Matthew Priday and corporate finance duo Michael Goldberg and David Fitzgerald.
The six KWM partners who chose to move to DLA Piper that December included the firm's Europe, UK and Middle East real estate head William Naunton. Naunton and Jones were previously partners together at Eversheds, quitting in November 2014 with the intention to launch a high-end real estate boutique. However, the pair changed their plans 10 months later and instead joined KWM.
Naunton, who is now UK head of real estate at DLA said: "Having worked with Clive for many years, his strong technical skills and creative approach to problem solving will deliver great value to the firm. I am confident that his expertise and reputation in the market will not only play to the strengths of our current team but will also offer great opportunities to continue growing our real estate offering."
Greenberg's KWM hires helped to boost London revenues by 75% by 2017, with the City base taking in $35m during the year on the back of 63% increase in lawyer headcount.
A spokesperson for Greenberg said: "We wish Clive Jones well."
The firm has moved to fill the gap left by Jones with the hire of Goodwin tax partner Ben Eaton.
Eaton, who had been a partner at Goodwin since 2012 after joining from Allen & Overy, will join Greenberg's City base next month.
Greenberg chairman Richard Rosenbaum said: "Ben's legal practice is a natural fit in that he is aligned with our firm's core values and strategies that have served us well as we have grown this team in a strategic and disciplined manner, even in today's disruptive environment."
