Clifford Chance (CC) has selected new Amsterdam co-managing partners, after the election of office head Jeroen Ouwehand as the magic circle firm's new senior partner.

The role will now be jointly held by finance and capital markets partner Bas Boris Visser, who previously headed the office between 2009 and 2015, and Amsterdam financial markets head Titus de Vries.

The co-managing partners will succeed Ouwehand on 1 January 2019.

Since stepping down as Amsterdam managing partner, Visser has headed up the firm's global innovation and business change unit, and he will continue in this role alongside his new appointment.

He has been responsible for overseeing progress of the firm's 'best delivery' strategy and its innovation units, Clifford Chance Applied Solutions and Clifford Chance Create, which seek to advance the magic circle firm's technology ecosystem and partner network and build out technology systems for clients, respectively.

Visser began his career at CC in 2001 and made partner in 2003, while Titus made partner in 2013.

CC managing partner Matthew Layton commented: "I am delighted that Bas Boris and Titus will take on the joint leadership role in Amsterdam. Working closely with our dynamic local partner group, I am convinced they will be a great team. By sharing the responsibilities, they will also both be able to continue with their other important roles in the firm.

"Our innovation and best delivery programme has experienced and highly capable leadership in place. Bas Boris remains a key part of this structure, as we enter this new phase in our strategy, and will continue to play a crucial role especially engaging with our clients, our internal teams and with external influencers.

"The arrangement also ensures that Titus can maintain his focus on our financial markets practice as it further builds on the strong momentum it has in the Dutch market, and that he can continue to develop his growing and successful practice."

Ouwehand added: "I am confident that I leave the office in very capable hands with Bas Boris and Titus."

Ouwehand was elected to replace Malcolm Sweeting as senior partner last week after seeing off four other contenders for the role.

He beat Paris managing partner Yves Wehrli to secure the role in the third and final round of voting, with insurance head Katherine Coates, former capital markets head David Dunnigan and former London managing partner David Bickerton dropping out in the earlier rounds.
