The In-House Transfer Window: legal moves at John Lewis, Just Eat and the SFO
The latest moves to and from the in-house legal sector

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is seeking a new general counsel, following the departure of GC Alun Milford. He has moved back into private practice, joining City white-collar law firm Kingsley Napley as a partner. His public prosecution career began at the Crown Prosecution Service in 1992, before he joined the Attorney General's Office in 2004, and became GC at the SFO six years ago.
BT senior patent lawyer Pete Wilson has left the telecommunications giant to join intellectual property law firm EIP as a partner in its telecoms practice. Wilson began his career at BT, working there for a decade. He then worked as an associate at Dummet Copp for five years, before moving back to BT for another 12 years in 2006.
The John Lewis Partnership has reshuffled its legal team, appointing Rebecca Law as head of legal at John Lewis & Partners. She replaces Georgina Service, who has resigned after six years.
Other changes have included appointing Hannah Hullah as director of legal at parent company John Lewis Partnership in September, with Ralph Nathan taking on her previous role as head of legal in employment for the John Lewis Partnership.
Michael Herlihy became partnership secretary at John Lewis Partnership in April, replacing Keith Hubber who was general counsel and company secretary. In October, it was announced that Sir Charlie Mayfield would be stepping down as chairman in 2020, with a new chairman expected to be announced in 2019.
Riverview Law has appointed former Barclays general counsel Rob Dinning as director of legal function co-sourcing. The firm's first significant hire since it was bought by EY four months ago, Dinning will be working in a new unit of Riverview that helps global corporations adapt their operating model to achieve better internal processes and external outsourcing. Dinning worked at Barclays for just over six years, taking on the role as general counsel, operations and technology, in 2014.
A Riverview spokesperson said: "This comes at a particularly exciting time for us at EY Riverview Law as we're currently recruiting for a large number of roles including paralegals, senior solicitors, technology roles, data analysts and in 2019 will be offering up to 25 trainee solicitor roles."
INSIGHTEC, an international medical technology company headquartered in Israel and Miami, has hired Jack Campo as its chief legal and business development officer. He will lead the company's governance, legal and compliance, corporate transactions and corporate policy matters. Previously, Campo was the chief legal officer at British multinational medical equipment manufacturing company Smith & Nephew. He has replaced Menashe Frank in his new role.
Just Eat has hired Moet Hennessy European legal director Isabelle Meyer as its new deputy general counsel. She spent six years at the luxury goods company and will start her new role at the online food delivery company in the New Year. She will report to Just Eat general counsel James Sporle.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

Amy O. Bruchs and Kurt F. Ellison of Michael Best & Friedrich have entered appearances for Epic Systems Corp. in a pending employment discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
