London O'Melveny partner exits for White & Case amid merger talks
The departure leaves O'Melveny's London office with eight partners

O'Melveny & Myers' London partner Sherri Snelson has left the firm after 10 years, amid its merger talks with Allen & Overy. She has joined White & Case's New York banking practice.
At O'Melveny, Snelson focused on debt finance transactions, representing both borrowers and credit providers, and is also experienced in financial restructuring and insolvency work.
She was previously a partner at Fried Frank and also an associate at fellow US firms Mayer Brown and McGuire Woods.
Her departure leaves O'Melveny's London office with eight partners, according to the firm's website.
Allen & Overy and Los Angeles-based O'Melveny's merger talks were revealed almost a year ago. A successful deal would create a transatlantic giant with 3,000 lawyers and combined revenues of £2bn – but sources have recently raised questions over the likelihood of that.
White & Case banking head Eric Leicht said: "Sherri is a talented lawyer with an impressive background in complex financial transactions. She will play a key role in helping us further expand our practice and strengthen our capabilities, particularly in the lending and private equity spaces."
White & Case has a five-year global strategy to expand its capabilities in London and New York.
Its City hires last year included JP Morgan Chase executive director and assistant general counsel Julia Smithers Excell, Herbert Smith Freehills projects partner Simon Caridia, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner contentious construction and engineering partner David Robertson, and Cadwalader London litigation partner Steven Baker.
A spokesperson for O'Melveny & Myers said: "We wish her well."

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
