Herbert Smith Freehills

Herbert Smith Freehills has hired DLA Piper's Australia head of technology as a partner in Sydney.

Peter Jones, who will make the move in June, specialises in technology contracting and outsourcing arrangements, including regulatory and privacy-related issues.

In 2016, he advised Brisbane-based gambling company Tatts Group Ltd and subsidiary Maxgaming Pty Ltd on a $150 million licensing arrangement from the New South Wales State Government to operate a centralised system that monitors all gambling machines in New South Wales.

Before joining DLA Piper in 2014, Jones practised at local firm Gilbert + Tobin for 15 years, the last eight years as a partner.

Jones joins Herbert Smith Freehills' technology, media and telecommunications practice, which is increasingly leading corporate and commercial transactions where there is a technology or innovation element, said Herbert Smith Freehills' corporate head Carolyn Pugsley in a statement.

Herbert Smith Freehills has more than 50 technology, media and telecoms lawyers based in Australia.
