Reed Smith Richards Butler has hired a disputes partner in Hong Kong, as the firm takes steps to recover from its loss of nine partners in January.

Mark West joins from Kennedys, where he co-led the firm's Hong Kong regulatory practice with partner Kevin Yam. He advises Hong Kong-listed and multinational companies as well as high-net-worth individuals on regulatory investigations, commercial dispute, white-collar crimes and fraud.

West joined Kennedys in 2006 and made partner in 2010. He previously practised at local litigation boutique Munros, and was a legal and transaction management associate at BNP Paribas. Earlier in his career, he trained and practised with Holman Fenwick Willan in Hong Kong and Singapore.

West joins Reed Smith Richards Butler following the firm's loss of nine partners, a consultant and at least 13 associates, who moved to MinterEllison in January.

Currently, Reed Smith Richards Butler has 23 partners in Hong Kong, who mostly focus on corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets. Partners Lianjun Li, Min Li, Asha Sharma and Jason Toms focus on commercial and maritime litigation.
