DLA Piper has hired Tom Fotheringham as a finance and projects partner in Brisbane, Australia, from King & Wood Mallesons, where he was a senior associate.

Fotheringham, who will make the move on April 23, focuses on developing energy, resources and infrastructure projects, acquisitions and divestments, joint ventures and commodity sales.

Before joining King & Wood Mallesons in 2013, Fotheringham practised at Australian firm Allens in Perth for a decade.

In recent months, DLA Piper has seen several partners across Australia leave the firm. Since October, the global legal giant lost finance and projects partners Alex Guy and Dan Brown in Brisbane to Ashurst, and head of real estate Jane Baddeley and employment law specialist Kathy Dalton in Melbourne to Australian firms Hall & Wilcox and Workdynamic Australia, respectively. In June, former Australia head of technology Peter Jones in Sydney will join Herbert Smith Freehills.

Despite the departures, DLA Piper still has a large presence in Australia, with about 60 partners in the country, including banking and finance partner David Lyons in Brisbane, who joined in December from Herbert Smith Freehills.
