CMS Singapore Senior Partner Joins 39 Essex Chambers
Steven Lim will leave CMS at the end of the month to join 39 Essex Chambers as an arbitrator and barrister.

CMS Singapore senior partner Steven Lim, an international arbitration specialist, is joining a chambers as an arbitrator and barrister in the city-state.
Lim stepped down from his role as senior partner and will leave CMS at the end of April to join 39 Essex Chambers. CMS said it currently has no plans to appoint a new senior partner in Singapore.
CMS's Singapore office is led by corporate partner Toby Grainger, who took over the role last year from Andrew Stott after the latter was dismissed and reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority. At the time, the firm declined to specify the circumstances surrounding Stott's dismissal. Stott had joined CMS via the three-way merger in 2017 with Nabarro and Olswang; he was Singapore managing partner of Olswang.
Lim specialises in commercial disputes, including private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, hotel management, trading contracts, oil, gas and energy, offshore services and engineering, shipbuilding and construction.
He is a panel arbitrator with several regional institutes, including the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and Malaysia's Asian International Arbitration Centre.
Lim joined legacy Nabarro in 2015 as managing partner of its Singapore office and became senior partner after the three-way merger in 2017.
Previously, Lim was a partner at Clyde & Co and managing director of its Singapore joint law venture partner, Clasis, which he launched in 2011. He was also special counsel at Baker Botts in Hong Kong, a partner at Singaporean firm Rajah & Tann and of counsel at Jones Day's Singapore office.
London-based 39 Essex Chambers launched its Singapore office in 2013 at Maxwell Chambers and has offices in Manchester in the U.K. and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Other arbitration specialists in Asia that recently left Big Law to be an arbitrator include Baker McKenzie's former global head of international arbitration, Chan Leng Sun, who joined Essex Court Chambers Duxton in Singapore; Latham & Watkins' former Hong Kong office managing partner, Simon Powell, who launched his own practice as an independent arbitrator; and former Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom Asia-Pacific counsel in Hong Kong, Chiann Bao, who joined Arbitration Chambers.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays.
