Construction litigation partner Hamish Macpherson has left White & Case after just a year with the firm, to join King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney.

Macpherson specialises in disputes before Australian courts arising from international infrastructure projects from the transportation, energy, building, mining, and oil and gas sectors.

At White & Case, he led the firm's Australia construction practice. Macpherson was among at least 10 partners that had joined the U.S. firm in Australia from Herbert Smith Freehills since 2016; he previously practised at Herbert Smith Freehills for more than a decade, including co-leading its global construction and infrastructure disputes practice alongside Dubai partner Craig Shepherd.

Another disputes partner in Sydney also left White & Case recently, after less than two years with the firm. Max Bonnell, who specialises in international arbitration, left White & Case in February; he joined in October 2017 from King & Wood Mallesons, where he was a partner and was with the firm for more than 20 years.*

With the departures of Macpherson and Bonnell, Brad Strahorn in Sydney is the only partner left in Australia for White & Case that specialises in commercial litigation. Strahorn joined White & Case in September of last year from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he made partner in 2016.

White & Case launched in Australia with offices in Sydney and Melbourne in the fall of 2016 with an 11-partner projects team from Herbert Smith Freehills. The U.S. firm now has 15 partners in Australia, according to its website, focusing on project development and finance.

*Correction April 26: An earlier version of this story misstated Max Bonnell joined White & Case in October last year from King & Wood Mallesons. In fact, he joined White & Case in October 2017. The story has been changed to reflect that. We regret the error.
