Allen & Overy has signed an agreement with machine-learning company Eigen Technologies to test its platform across a range of the firm's practice areas.

Allen & Overy will use Eigen's software for contract review and analysis. It is the second law firm to become a client of Eigen, following Linklaters which signed up in 2015.

Eigen founder Dr Lewis Liu was a technology adviser at Linklaters between 2014 and 2017. While at the Magic Circle firm, Liu founded a deal origination team for Linklaters staffed with ex-investment bankers, lawyers and consultants.

Eigen's chief legal and strategy officer is former Slaughter and May partner Adam Eastell. He spent 11 years at the Magic Circle firm, and was a partner between 2011 and 2016.

Eastell said in a statement: "We recently completed an in-depth pilot with A&O and are proud to have one of the world's leading law firms using our NLP technology. A&O is well known for its innovative thinking in the application of legal technology and [its] team has a wealth of knowledge in this area. We are looking forward to working with A&O to explore how our technology can be applied across a range of practice areas."
