Jones Day has continued its expansion in Australia, hiring an eight-lawyer tax disputes team in Melbourne from local firm Clayton Utz.

The team is led by partner Niv Tadmore and includes of counsel Steven Small, Simon Bowden, and Benjamin Lancaster, and associates Alexandra Fraser, Kipling Milton, Richard Keys and Eloise Verbeek.

Tadmore specialises in the resolution of tax disputes, international tax, transfer pricing and engagement with revenue authorities. He leaves Clayton Utz after more than 16 years with the firm.

In a statement, Tadmore said he and his team were attracted to Jones Day largely by the U.S. firm's cross-jurisdictional approach to client service.

"The global tax environment is… becoming more harmonious in terms of rules, and yet many of these rules are fuzzy and many countries are supplementing these rules with unilateral measures," he said, adding that clients seek coordinated and seamless service that is multijurisdictional in terms of experience, knowledge and execution.

Jones Day has been expanding in Australia in recent years. The Melbourne office opened in January last year, following the opening of offices in Brisbane and Perth in 2016 and 2014, respectively. Recent hires include former King & Wood Mallesons mergers and acquisitions partner Shannon Finch and former Ashurst intellectual property partner Andrew Rankine, both in Sydney; and energy and resources transactional partner Adam Conway in Perth, also from Ashurst.

The global giant now has more than 90 lawyers across four offices in Australia, including 29 partners.
