Slaughter and May has won a contract to advise state-owned small business lender, the British Business Bank.

The £200,000 contract will see the Magic Circle firm provide competition advice to the bank, according to a document. The main adviser listed in the contract notice is Slaughters competition and regulatory partner Isabel Taylor.

Taylor had originally provided advice to the government on its initial proposal to create the British Business Bank.

Founded five years ago, the British Business Bank was created to provide up to £10 billion in lending and credit services to small and medium-sized enterprises across the U.K. In 2014, the European Commission approved the creation of the Bank, stating that it did not run afoul of EU state aid rules, which ensure that companies receiving government support do not gain an unfair advantage over their competitors.

The current contract pertains to state aid advice.

For Slaughters, it is the latest in a succession of recent government contract wins. Earlier this year, the firm won an £800,000 contract to provide legal services to the Department of Transport over potential legal action arising from Brexit, and another major contract relating to the government's ferry controversy. It has also taken on work connected to the Hinkley Point C nuclear power development, and to the government's digital service platform.
